Work with the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency to improve early morning and late evening Muni service throughout the Sunset District.

Reliable off-peak transportation is important for those with varied work and school schedules, and for those who need to access transportation either very early in the morning or late at night. SFMTA will be implementing a number of improvements to late night service throughout the City, including the Sunset District.

Late-Night Owl Service Increase

The SFMTA was recently awarded funding through the San Francisco County Transportation Authority’s (SFCTA) Lifeline Transportation Program (LTP). The LTP funds projects that improve the mobility for low-income populations by addressing gaps or barriers identified through local planning efforts.

In order to support emerging recommendations brought forth by the San Francisco Late Night Transportation Working Group earlier this year, SFMTA submitted an application for funding from the LTP to increase Muni Owl service. The request for funding would provide a 30% increase in Muni Owl service, which would include new all-night Muni Owl service on portions of the 48-Quintara. The SFMTA was awarded the funding earlier this year.

As part of the LTP, SFMTA will also be enhancing the schedules of all Muni Owl routes, which will help improve service reliability on the N-Owl and L-Owl.
