In partnership with San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, continue to provide residents educational opportunities about bicycling in the Sunset District and throughout the rest of the City.

Our office works closely with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition (SFBC) to provide affordable and unique opportunities to bike in the Sunset District. Since the publishing of the Blueprint, our office has participated in and/or hosted the following educational bicycle events:

  • Spin the Sunset: In October 2014, our office hosted a bicycle safety class and short ride through the Sunset. We rode over to Swell Bicycles (4002 Irving St.) to meet the owners for tips and tricks on keeping bikes in good condition. We ended the event at Sunset Elementary School, which was hosting a small bicycle fair.

  • Bike About the SF Zoo: This May, our office hosted an event with the San Francisco Zoo. Participants met for coffee at Andytown Coffee Roasters (3655 Lawton St.) and then biked over to the SF Zoo for a behind-the-scenes bike tour.

  • Bike and Roll to School Week: This April, our office joined three Sunset District schools to celebrate Bike & Roll to School Week, including Francis Scott Key Elementary, RL Stevenson Elementary, and Ulloa Elementary Schools. For more information, visit http://sfsaferoutes.org/events/biketoschool/.

  • Bike to Work Day: Bike to Work Day is hosted by the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, and is the Bay Area’s biggest biking day of the year. This year, we started our day out at Elevation Bike Co. (2648 Judah St.) and then biked over to San Francisco City Hall and back to the Sunset after work. For more information, visit https://www.sfbike.org/bike-to-work-day/.

We continue to work on creative ways to improve bicycle education and opportunities for our residents. To learn more about classes offered by the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, visit https://www.sfbike.org/resources/urban-bicycling-workshops/
