Work with Taraval Police Station to identify the most dangerous intersections in the Sunset District and work on enforcement strategy.

We will continue to keep track of areas that would benefit from more focused attention and enforcement, which includes prioritizing school areas and Muni stops. We have a close working relationship with the Taraval Police Station and the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) and keep them continuously informed of problematic areas.  During the planning process of the Sunset District Blueprint, we identified 13 intersections that were in need of traffic calming and enforcement based on ongoing community feedback:

  • Lincoln Way and 34th Ave.

  • Irving and 27th Ave.

  • 28th Ave. and Irving St.

  • Kirkham St. and 26th Ave.

  • Moraga and 31st Ave.

  • Taraval and 21st Ave.

  • Vicente and 23rd Ave.

  • Sunset Blvd. and Yorba St.

  • Lower Great Hwy. and Kirkham St.

  • Wawona St. and 47th Ave.

  • Sloat Blvd. and 47th Ave.

  • Judah St. between La Playa and Lower Great Hwy.

  • 19th Ave. and Lincoln Way

Since identifying these intersections, the following has been accomplished:

  • Installed a traffic signal at Sunset Blvd. and Yorba St.;

  • Installed a traffic signal at Sloat Blvd. and 47th Ave;

  • Installed daylighting at Irving and 27th Ave.;

  • Installed a stop sign at Irving and 28th Ave.;

  • Installed a stop sign at Vicente and 23rd Ave.;

  • Installed a stop sign at Wawona and 47th Ave.; and

  • Expected installation of a traffic signal at Lincoln Way and 34th Ave. by the end of 2015.

With the added traffic calming measures, we will continue to work with SFPD to ensure enforcement is focused on the remaining intersections until traffic calming measures can be investigated at those locations as well.
