Work with city and county agencies to install pedestrian safety measures along south side of Golden Gate Park, along Lincoln Way.

Over the past year, our office has been able to make some improvements to pedestrian access for Golden Gate Park, including:

  • A new signal on Lincoln Way at 34th Avenue, to be turned on by early 2016;

  • Park entryway signage all along Lincoln Way, including landscaping improvements; and

  • Advocating for the removal of parking near crosswalks, which will be further studied by SFMTA in cooperation with the SF Planning Department.

This year, our office will be working with SFMTA to assess the feasibility of reducing the speed limit on Lincoln Way from 35 miles per hour to 30 miles per hour. Studies show that there is a greater likelihood of pedestrian fatality the faster a car is travelling. By reducing the speed limit along Lincoln Way and working with Taraval Station for more enforcement, we hope to create a safer environment for pedestrians accessing Golden Gate Park, or those parking and trying to cross the street.
