Continue to encourage installation of additional street trees and landscaping to increase value and enjoyment of our neighborhood.

All of our district’s streetscape improvement projects include adding trees to our commercial corridors (Taraval and Irving Streets). Additionally, our office has been working with SF Public Works and Friends of the Urban Forest to increase the tree canopy in District 4.

In this year’s budget, we secured $50,000 to support the removal of diseased trees in the Sunset District. The Myoporum species has been severely affected by a pest called “thrip”. All of the Myoporum trees will eventually die, and many affected trees on our commercial corridors are already missing their leaves or appear to be dead. Our office is currently working with Public Works to notify property owners of our efforts to replace the Myoporum trees and assist them with replacing their trees over the next year.

In addition to advocating for increased installation of street trees in our city, our office believes that the City also needs a stable source of funding for proper maintenance of all street trees. We look forward to working with city departments and groups such as Friends of the Urban Forest (FUF) to ensure that we can keep our trees alive and healthy for the generations to come.
