Establish neighborhood-defining connections to natural landmarks such as Ocean Beach and Golden Gate Park.

Wayfinding Signs for Golden Gate Park Access

Last year, our office worked closely with the SF Recreation and Parks Department (RPD) to assess the cost and feasibility of adding signage to all of the entrances to Golden Gate Park along Lincoln Way. RPD included this project in their budget this year, and staff at RPD are currently working on creating a project timeline for implementation. The proposal includes:

  • Pedestrian entrance – includes GGP pedestrian map sign, regulatory sign, and landscape improvements at 20th Avenue, 30th Avenue, 34th Avenue, 45th Avenue and La Playa Street.

  • Vehicular entrance – includes GGP engraved boulder, pedestrian map sign, regulatory sign, potential large wayfinding signage for vehicles, and landscape improvements at 25th Avenue and 41st Avenue.

Taraval Streetscape Improvement Project

The Taraval Streetscape Improvement Project extends from46th to 48th Avenue. The renovation will provide a safer and more inviting environment for pedestrians, motorists and transit riders. Improvements include more visible crosswalks, sidewalk bulb-outs to shorten crossings at intersections, a public seating area, new landscaping and street trees, streetlight upgrades and roadway paving. This project was finished in July 2015 and we hope the improvements will attract more neighborhood-serving businesses to the area.

Residents and visitors will notice a tiled artwork piece consisting of three surfboards at the intersection of Great Highway and Taraval. This artwork serves as a neighborhood marker, which our office hopes to build upon along the Great Highway.

As future opportunities arise, such as the Taraval Streetscape Improvement Project, our office will work with city departments and our community to ensure that we create better connections between our neighborhood and natural resources, such as Ocean Beach and Golden Gate Park.
