Support legislation or programs to incentivize business owners in maintaining the condition of their storefronts and corridors.

In May 2014, the Board of Supervisors passed legislation sponsored by our office to permanently waive Planning Department and Department of Building Inspection permit fees for awning replacements and pedestrian-level lighting during the month of May each year, which is Small Business Month. Our office will continue to inform merchants about the annual fee waiver program and other services the City and nonprofits offer, such as one-on-one customized consulting services and training workshops in a variety of languages. We will continue to develop additional ways we can incentivize merchants to maintain and improve the conditions of their storefronts and surrounding area.
