Create one-stop shops in the Sunset District to assist residents with social, educational, and health services.

Planning/Department of Building Inspection Workshops

Recognizing the difficulties of taking time out of one’s busy work day to visit city departments, our office initiated a mobile workshop for Sunset residents for issues related to the Planning Department and Department of Building Inspection. We started this effort in 2014, and have since held two well-attended workshops. Residents interested in home or business alterations, improvements or expansions have participated in these workshops, and we look forward to holding additional workshops in the future.

In recognition of International Women’s Day and its theme for 2015 “Make It Happen,” our office partnered with North East Medical Services (NEMS) and the Shanti Project to provide free women’s health information and screenings. The event, which brought together NEMS and Shanti together for the first time, featured a mammovan, glucose and blood pressure screenings with the assistance of California Pacific Medical Center – Sutter Health, and information on a variety of women’s health issues. Our office will continue to bring resources to the Sunset District to better assist residents with their needs.

Mobile Job Fair

Our office spearheaded the first Mobile Job Fair in District 4 in 2014, and have successfully paired students either living or studying in District 4 with local small businesses for summer jobs. The youth are selected and funded through the Mayor’s Youth Employment & Education Program (MYEEP), while our office helps recruit Sunset District businesses to participate. Ten students were hired in 2014, and eight were hired in 2015. We look forward to continuing this successful partnership and recruiting more businesses to hire students in the coming year. This program allows businesses to receive assistance, while youth are given the opportunity to become more engaged in their community. We also hope the summer opportunities will lead to more permanent employment for the youth.

Adoptions in our Neighborhood

In recognition of National Pet Month in June, our office teamed up with San Francisco Animal Care and Control and our local business Animal Connection to host a pet adoption in the Sunset District. Participants visited adoptable kittens, dogs and rabbits at Animal Connection (2550 Judah Street). Our office also co-hosted a series of free spay or neuter event at Sunset Elementary School with San Francisco Animal Care and Control. Veterinarians from the Peninsula Humane Society provided free spay or neuter services for Cats and Dogs in the Sunset District.
