Provide opportunities for seniors to learn and engage with each other over a variety of topics and physical activities.

Our office helps promote programs that encourage interactions between seniors and youth by publishing the information in our monthly newsletter. The San Francisco Public Library offers workshops on a regular basis that provides computer help for adults and seniors through their Teen Computer Corps. In addition to assistance with new technology, adults and seniors have more opportunities to engage with young volunteers through these workshops.  We will continue to work with senior centers and youth organizations to identify ways to create additional opportunities for youth and seniors to interact.

Recently, our office facilitated a partnership between the Asian Art Museum and Self-Help for the Elderly. Asian Art Museum docents visited Self-Help for the Elderly’s senior center at South Sunset Playground (40th Ave & Vicente) in July 2015, and gave a presentation about Chinese art and exhibits taking place at the museum. Additionally, Asian Art Museum will now be offering the seniors at Self-Help the opportunity to visit the museum for free once a month for the next five months. We are grateful for this successful partnership, as it provides opportunities for seniors to receive information within their own community, or to visit our City’s cultural offerings if they are able to. We thank the Asian Art Museum for this wonderful partnership, and look forward to developing more similar opportunities for our senior community.
